Fibreboard

Our Fibreboard is a type of engineered wood product made from wood fibers or other plant-based fibers bonded together with adhesives, heat, and pressure.

Fibreboard is a type of engineered wood product made from wood fibers or other plant-based fibers bonded together with adhesives, heat, and pressure. The fibers are typically derived from wood chips, sawdust, or recycled wood materials, which are broken down into fine particles and then compressed to form dense, flat panels.

Key Characteristics:

Density Variations: Fibreboard comes in different densities levels:

  • Low-Density Fibreboard (LDF): Lightweight, often used for insulation or as a base material (e.g., softboard).

  • Medium-Density Fibreboard (MDF): A popular, versatile type with a smooth surface, widely used in furniture, cabinetry, and molding.

  • High-Density Fibreboard (HDF): Stronger and denser than MDF, used for flooring, paneling, and heavy-duty applications (e.g., hardboard like Masonite).

Smooth Surface: Unlike plywood, fibreboard has no grain, making it ideal for painting or veneering.

Affordable: Made from wood byproducts, it’s cost-effective compared to solid wood.

Workability: Easy to cut, shape, and finish, but some types (like MDF) can dull tools quickly.

Common Uses: Furniture: Cabinets, shelves, and flat-pack furniture (especially MDF).

Construction: Wall panels, underlayment, and roofing substrates.

Packaging: Low-density fibreboard for protective packaging.

Decorative: Moldings, laminates, and veneered surfaces.
